How the media are manipulating you.
Political bias in the mainstream media has always existed but it is becoming more and more blatant in recent times. Just after the Brexit result the mainstream media turned on Labour with a passion. Labour is split,Labour is in crisis, Ed Milliband must resign. Meanwhile the Tories where allowed to carry on as normal. The Tories where just as divided on Brexit as Labour but we never heard any of the same rhetoric aimed at them.
Here's a couple of recent examples.
The Sky news headline states "Labour plans to impose VAT on private school fees to fund free school meals" while they go with "Working age benefits sacrificed to cut deficit"
While at a quick glance this might look innocent but it's when you actually think about it in more detail that you see the manipulation. Take a look at definitions of the following words :
"Sacrifice : to give up something that is valuable to you in order to help another person"
"Impose : to officially force a rule, tax, punishment, etc"
Are we really to believe that the least well off in society have sacrificed their lifeline to help others? Of course they haven't. It has been imposed on them. Not only that, we are told, that under Labour plans, the most affluent in society will have VAT imposed on them. Surely as they can afford it maybe they could sacrifice a little to help others?
It's only a small play on words but has a huge impact to emphasise bias. We don't see the Tories as nasty party as people have sacrificed their benefits but Labour are out of order for trying to impose VAT on people who can afford it.
When The Conservatives won the Copeland By-election we were told "Labour has suffered a humiliating defeat" while in Stoke "Labour narrowly held on to their seat". Again it's only a small play on words but surely this should have been sold as a Tory victory in Copeland and Labour holding Stoke but instead we get the impression that Labour lost one seat and nearly lost another. Of course the tories won Copeland but it suits the media agenda to bring down Labour.
The same thing is happening in Scotland with the SNP. They show opposition parties attacking SNP but they don't show the counter arguments. They keep telling us there is no appetite for a referendum in Scotland by running UK wide polls. They tell us they only accept polling results from Scottish postcodes. How hard is it to look up a Scottish postcode?
It's about time people woke up to this. We expect it from the Tabloids and Daily broadsheets as they. proudly proclaim their party bias but TV news needs to be impartial and if they aren't then they need to declare their political bias in the same way the papers do. This is the only way the viewer will be able to source what's really going on. The next time you watch or read the News just think about what it is they are trying to sell you.
Just Saying...
